The article expresses an in-depth personal experience and reflection on how polarization along religious and ethnic lines by politicians led to divisions, suspicion and hatred in communities. Disputes about religious freedom, resource control, and citizenship led to violent conflicts at the local and state levels in Nigeria. Also, many religious sites were desecrated.
